I’ll be giving a more detailed list of changes soon, but I wanted to post this, because it’s something several people requested – the ability to generate random schedules!
I’ve gotten a lot of changes in this new update, but really wanted to try to tackle the random schedule idea. I stayed up late and was having trouble figuring a good way to randomly create actual NFL schedules, but this morning, after 2-3 cups of coffee, an idea dawned, and I started on it.
And it’s working great! Here’s the thing about NFL schedules:
(1) you play each team in your division twice – once at home and once away;
(2) you play all the teams in another division in your conference – two at home, two away;
(3) you play all the teams in a division in the other conference – two at home, two away;
(4) you play two other teams in your conference, not in that other division you’re teamed against
(5) every team has 8 home games and 8 away
You can see why it was tough! But I’m very happy to say I’ve been testing it, and it’s working great. I may add one more random factor in, we’ll see, but I think people will like this current design very much, and I can always continue to modify it in future updates.
Now, when you tap “New Season” I’ll give you two options – “Official 2012″ and “Random NFL.” I may give you another option “Completely Random” but I’m leaning toward letting that wait until next month’s update.
Hi,
Can you report on what the other changes are in the new version? And how about plans for the future? In my opinion, this game is great! Best TRUE football simulation on a handheld. I like anything that brings you closer to a “Strat-O-Matic” type simulation. Keep it up!!!! there are still may of us out here that are not children who need all the graphics and the unrealistic crap.
ThanXXXXX
Thanks, Dennis! I’ll post more details soon, and that’s a good idea about future ideas. And I appreciate any suggestions! For example, some guys on the Facebook page are asking me to add Zone Blitzes. I did some research and found it’s more involved than something I can get out in the next month or so, since I work on this part-time, but it’s definitely something I’ll add by the 2013 version.
One thing I’m wondering is more of a “RPG” or franchise mode, something along the lines of Big Win games. I could let you select a primary team, and that team would start out with all low attributes, and you’d earn points various ways and could use those points to “spec out” your team. And if you try something (say, dumping all points into just your QB but nothing else) and you realize you want to respect, you could.
However, that’s completely different than what I currently have, where we’re simulating real teams. So I need to think about the best way to do both – two different apps? An option in the game? Not sure yet.
Anyway, thanks again, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the game! One last thing – if you can think of any suggestions on how I can get the word out about the app, I could them, too. I don’t know if it’s just too much a niche game, or not getting discovered on the store or what.
Well, enjoy! And I hope you get a chance to try multiplayer, it’s a lot of fun – and heck, I’m losing several matches right now!
