Clock Management

Don't ignore the clock, it can make the difference!

Clock Management is one of the most important skills of any good coach and team, and yet we’ve all seen games where the coach lost a close game through not paying attention to the clock.

PSF gives you extensive options in managing the clock.

Whether you’re on offense or defense, if it’s late in the half or game, and you want to know what the clock’s doing on every play, then you should activate “Watch the Clock” which will cause the Clock Management screen to come up automatically every play, but only if the clock is running.

If you’re on offense, you can tell your players to “Try to Get Out of Bounds” if you want them to try to stop the clock. Their ability to do so depends on whether they’re near the sidelines (sweeps, out patterns, etc) and on their leadership ability.

Offense has other ways to buy time as well, including “No Huddle” (which saves about 20 seconds) and “Throw a Pass Away” (also saves about 20 seconds, but stops the clock and wastes a down). If your QB has poor leadership, then he’s slightly more prone to make a mistake if going “No Huddle” which might result in a penalty.

Both offense and defense can call timeout.

The following options remain active until you deactivate them or until the half ends.

  • No Huddle
  • Try to Get Out of Bounds
  • Watch the Clock
